Vint speaks

Vint Cerf has an axe to grind, and he does it on the 13 June installment of WAMU’s Tech Tuesday show, hosted by Kojo Nnamdi.

Vint drew our attention to the fact that the FCC has waived common carrier regulations for broadband providers, and his employer, Google, wants to see legislation codifying common carriage, lately called “net neutrality,” for broadband providers. Historically, telecommunications providers have been regulated as common carriers. A regulated common carrier in transport or communications cannot discriminate between paying customers, and is free from liability for the content the customer is sending.
